Culture and sports all year round
Viljandi city and county host a variety of events in every season. Here, active families, high-culture enthusiasts, and music and theatre lovers alike will find their favorites. Professional athletes and hobbyists are drawn by the springtime Grand Race around Lake Viljandi and several cycling competitions. The opening event of the summer season for the whole family is traditionally the Hanseatic Days. Throughout the summer, several beloved music events take place in Viljandi County, from Suure-Jaani to Mulgimaa, the largest of which is the legendary Viljandi Folk Music Festival, or simply Viljandi Folk – one of the largest folk music events in Europe, held every year in July.

Hanseatic Days

Viljandi Hanseatic Days take place on the first weekend of June. The event combines traditional street trading with modern community events, bringing together people from Viljandi and its surroundings, Estonia, and the whole world.
Viljandi Folk Music Festival

The Viljandi Folk Music Festival, also known as Viljandi Folk, has been bringing together great music from all over the world for 30 years. On the last weekend of July, Viljandi’s population doubles as nearly 25,000 guests arrive in the city to take part in this powerful international music celebration.
