The oak of Viiralt (Tammekoori)

The Tammekoori oak, depicted by Eduard Viiralt in his drypoint ‘Viljandi maastik’ (Viljandi landscape), is located a few kilometres outside of Viljandi in the direction of Tartu. The circumference of the oak is 4.7 m and its height is 12 m.
Even though the oak’s reputation precedes it, it is still worth seeing the beautiful tree when in the neighbourhood. A person familiar with Estonian art and the work of Eduart Viiralt will surely find the sight familiar.
