Guided walk in Viljandi — “Every place has a story”

Come on a guided tour of Viljandi and discover the city’s stories!

Every city has its own story – Viljandi especially. It is a historical Hanseatic city where streets, houses, and parks have their own stories to tell. During the walk, we don’t focus on dates; instead, we talk about how and why these places have emerged and what stories are associated with them.

We start at Freedom Square, where, unlike many other Soviet cities, a statue of the founder of the Soviet Union, Vladimir Lenin, has never stood. Do you know why?
We will also explore why there are so many strawberries in the city.

Then we cross the suspension bridge to Castle Hill Park, where we investigate the origin of the name “Villu cellar”. We look for a boatman on the lake who longs for his maiden and swings under the oak tree. From spring to autumn, one can also notice small cats in the city that have made themselves at home on the streets of Viljandi.

This is a pleasant walk where you can experience Viljandi through stories and small discoveries.

Come, let’s walk together in the city of Viljandi!
